Summer Reading Challenges Are Here – YOMU Is Here to Help!

Summer is one of the best times of year to help kids fall in love with reading. School is out and routines are a little looser. Our kids have more time for imagination, curiosity, and the simple pleasure of getting lost in a book.

It’s also the season of summer reading challenges.

Across the country, libraries, bookstores, nonprofits, schools, and even the White House are inviting kids and families to read more this summer. Some challenges ask children to read a certain number of books. Some encourage them to track minutes. Some offer prizes, certificates, pizza, free books, bookmarks, or bookstore rewards. Others simply give families a fun theme and a reason to keep reading together.

As our mission at YOMU is to encourage kids to read more books, we love these challenges!

But as many parents know, signing up for a reading challenge is the easy part. Finishing it can be much harder… A child may start the summer excited, pick out a few books, and fill in the first line of a reading log. Then vacation happens. Camp starts. Screens compete for attention. The reading log gets lost in a backpack. A few days pass, and the challenge begins to feel like one more thing to nag about.

That is exactly where YOMU can help: We designed it to make reading progress visible and motivating. Parents can help their child set a goal, track books or pages, and celebrate progress along the way. Instead of waiting until the end of the summer to feel successful, kids can see themselves moving forward day by day.
